我看中小学英语教学面临的困惑与挑战---从新课标、新教材所想到的(5)

  english, as a global communicative language, is not to be replaced by any other language. in the over 220 countries and areas in the world, 88 countries and areas speak english or use english as their official language. in the foreign affairs, culture and technology communication, english has a prevailing preference to other major languages in the world. we have british english, american english, australian english, south african english and even china english (note: not chinglish, which is not acceptable english). nowadays more and more attention is being paid to the english environment in non-english speaking countries, as we can feel in china now with the entry to wto and the 2008 olympics in beijing and also the 2010 expo in shanghai. an example is that we need to add an abstract in english to all the thesis and dissertations written in chinese fro publication. everything is on the way to meet the need of global communication.

  how can the english teaching in schools catch up with the pace of international century challenge? from the new textbook series made on the new curriculum perspective, we can see the blueprint that specialists have prepared for us: proficiency with global humanistic perspective. the following can be some strategies that i suggest to deal with the dilemma and challenges discussed above:

  1. english teachers should encourage themselves to face the challenge and get over the dilemma. learn more and learn fast and learn to create in their teaching to meet the global demands.
