Unit 1 What job do you want to do?
Teaching Aims:
1. Language focus:
眉 Using nouns to identify people
eg: a businesswoman, a secretary
眉 Using 鈥渨ould like to鈥 to express intentions
eg: Would you like to be a fireman?
眉 Asking 鈥渨h-鈥 questions to find out the reason
eg: Why would you like to be a fireman?
眉 Using connectives to give reasons:
eg: I鈥檇 like to be a fireman because I want to put out fires
2. Ability aims
眉 To make the students learn to identify people鈥檚 job
眉 To train the students鈥 ability of listening. To help the students to listen for specific information about vocation
眉 To let the students express intentions in the future and give the reasons
眉 To help the students to investigate one of their friends to get information about his or intention and write a report about their intentions
3. Emotion aims:
眉 To arouse the students鈥 interest in learning English
眉 To help the students to set up a great ideal in the future.

眉 How to find out the reasons of people鈥檚 intentions in the future.

Pre-task preparation: |
Watch some pictures and say: What is he or she? What job does he or she do? To ask the students to say something about every jobs A contest in groups: Give the quick response of each job one by one. |
All the students look at the pictures and get ready to tell out the names of jobs Students listen carefully and know more about every jobs All the students in each group participate in this activity. The group which gets the highest mark will win |
Review jobs they have learned Foster the students to describe jobs with sentences. Consolidation the knowledge about jobs. Arouse the students鈥 interest. |
While-task procedure |
Guess out the jobs of students鈥 relatives. Ask students to work in pairs, ask and answer questions like this: Would you like to be a鈥? Why? I would like to be a 鈥 because I鈥tc. |
Students listen and know more about the characteristics of jobs. All the students do pair work |
To use the words and sentences to establish contact with daily life Let the students practise using sentence pattern to get the specific information of jobs and give the reasons. |
Homework |
Investigate one of your relatives and write a report about this: What is his of her job? Does he or she like the job? Why? |
Students ask questions and get useful information. Practice writing a report after getting the information. |
To make the students put what they have learned into practical use. |
