  l Asking Wh-questions to find out various kinds of specific information about a thing (e.g. What is it?)

  l Asking yes/no questions to obtain simple response (e.g. Is it a bag?)

  l Using formulaic expressions to confirm or deny (e.g. Yes!/No!)

  Language skills:

  Listening:

  Discriminate between words with different initial sounds r-, s-, t- and u-.

  Speaking:

  l Use modelled phrases to open and maintain an interaction by providing information in response to factual questions

  l Use modelled phrases and sentences to communicate with other learners.

  l Pronounce correctly words in isolation with initial sounds r-, s-, t- and u-.

  Materials:

  l Student鈥檚 Book 3A page 20

  l Cassette 3A and a cassette player

  l Wrapping materials; scissors; string

  l Workbook 3A pages 14 and 15; 41, 42 and 43

  l Word and Picture Cards 3A

  Preparation:

  Bring some scrap wrapping paper and coloured string for wrapping presents. Ask the students to bring small soft toys or other favourite toys.
