  Book 6 Unit 5 A Let鈥檚 learn

  Ladies and gentlemen, it鈥檚 my great honor to be here sharing my lesson with all of you. The material I鈥檓 dealing with today is PEP Primary English Book 6 Unit 5 A Let鈥檚 learn, learning the 鈥搃ng form of 5 words. First, let me talk about the teaching material.

  Part 1 Teaching material

  This lesson is about describing what the animals are doing. By study of this lesson, the Ss will be able to describe what the animals are doing like this: Look at the tiger! It鈥檚 running! The rabbit is jumping. But before that, the teacher should help Ss to review some names of animals, and some verb phrases, such as flu, swim. This is to make the teaching and learning easier. Therefore, on studying of the teaching material and analyzing the regulation of children鈥檚 growing of mind, I put forward the teaching objectives according to English syllabus and new lesson standard.

  1. Knowledge objectives

  a) The Ss will be able to hear, read and write the following words:

  flying, walking, running, jumping, swimming

  b) The Ss will be able to hear, speak and read the following sentences:

  Look at the tiger! It鈥檚 running! The rabbit is jumping.

  2. Ability objectives

  The Ss will be able to use the words and sentences to describe what the animals are doing

  3. Emotion objectives

  a) The Ss can form a sense that animals are friends of human beings. We should love and protect them.

  b) The Ss can form a sense of self-protecting while swimming.

  Next, the key points of this lesson.

  First of all, to study the five words: flying, jumping, swimming, running, walking. And use them to describe what the animals are doing.

  Difficult points: the spelling of 鈥渞unning鈥 and 鈥渟wimming鈥.

  Part 2 Teaching methods

  According to the modern perception theories and social interaction teaching theories, I adopt the TSA method in my teaching, namely Total Situational Action.

  TSA method is a 鈥渟cene-activities鈥 teaching method. It establishes a real scene and the interaction between the teacher and the Ss. It emphasizes a dynamic information exchange the teacher and Ss.

  At the same time, make use of the modern electricity teaching equipment and all kinds of teaching means, it can mobilize the Ss鈥 enthusiasm and creativity in learning English.

  Part 3 Studying methods

  Let Ss study in a relaxing and agreeable atmosphere. Ss understand the new language in certain through the mental process of seeing, hearing, saying, observing, imagining, thinking, etc. And make preparation for completing the new studying task.

  After feeling and comprehending the language points. Let Ss obtain the knowledge actively by cooperative study. Thereby, develop the Ss鈥 abilities of studying and working with the learning language independently.

  Part 4 Teaching process

  In order to realize the teaching process systematically, properly and efficiently, under the principal of 鈥渞egard Ss as the corpus, the teacher inspires for predominance鈥, I divide the teacher process into the following five steps.

  Step 1 Warm-up

  First, teacher plays the tape of Book 1 Unit 4 Let鈥檚 do to show Ss the animals. It鈥檚 to make the class more relaxing and to review some words learnt before to make this lesson easier. Besides, teaching while acting can arouse Ss鈥 interest of learning English.

  Second, for the same reason, teacher plays the tape of Book 1 Unit 4 B Let鈥檚 do.

  Step 2 Presentation

  1. Show Ss the CAI of Let鈥檚 learn and ask, 鈥淲hat animals can you see in the picture?鈥 This is to help Ss review some animals and inspire their desire of learning.

  2. Teacher points at the elephant and says, 鈥淟ook at the elephant! What鈥檚 it doing?鈥 Ss answer, 鈥淚t鈥檚 walking.鈥 Teacher writes the word-walking down. Use the same way to teach 鈥渏umping鈥 and 鈥渞unning鈥.

  For Ss, the picture of 鈥淟et鈥檚 learn鈥 is familiar. So it is easy for them to say 鈥渨alking鈥. The point is to ask Ss to imitate the teacher and describe what the tiger and the frog are doing.

  3. Say a chant

  Walking, walking, the elephant is walking.

  Running, running, the tiger is running.

  Jumping, jumping, the frog is jumping.

  It's an easy chant. Let Ss practice the three words and sentence pattern with fun. Make full use of the bodies and minds. Ss will learn these new contents easily.

  4. Look and say a new chant

  Ask Ss to use the sample chant to make a new one.

  It's not only to review the words learnt, but also to inspire Ss鈥 creativity.

  5. CAI shows a bird flying.

  Teacher asks, 鈥淟ook, what鈥檚 this?鈥 Ss answer, 鈥淚t鈥檚 a/an鈥.鈥 Teacher says, 鈥淚t鈥檚 a bird. The bird can fly. What else can fly?鈥 Ss give out more examples that can fly. Teacher says, 鈥淵es, there are many things can fly. And the bird is flying.鈥

  This is to teach 鈥渇lying鈥. As a mater of fact, Ss have learnt this word. So to them, it鈥檚 not difficult. And Ss can use their imagination to fine out as many things that can fly as possible, which also helps them to review some words learnt before.

  6. Use the same way to teach 鈥渟wimming鈥. And ask Ss to pay attention to the spelling.

  7. CAI shows some points that we should remember while swimming.

  It鈥檚 added to let Ss form a sense of self-protecting.

  Step 3 Practice

  1.Game: Guess- What is it doing?

  CAI shows the pictures and teacher asks several Ss to answer.

  2. Practice the sentence 鈥淟ook at the鈥. It鈥檚鈥!鈥 in pairs.

  The two steps are complementary. The first is presented among some good Ss as a demonstration. So it will be easier for Ss at different levels to practice in Step 2.

  3. The 2008 Olympic Games

  CAI shows Ss some pictures of some athletes, such as Liu Xiang, Yao Ming. And ask Ss to use 鈥淟ook at鈥. She/He is鈥!鈥

  This will be an exciting part. These athletes are familiar to Ss. They are willing to say something about these famous persons. So it will easily help them to practice the words and sentence pattern. Besides, the sentence pattern 鈥淪he is鈥︹ is the point of next lesson. So this step can be a bedding to next period.

  Step 4 Consolidation and extension

  Summarize the whole lesson and arrange the homework.

  1. Make a funny book on P64.

  2. Finish the exercises on exercise-book.

  3. Practice writing the words on copy-book.

  This is to strengthen the words and sentence pattern. The鈥s鈥.

  Step 5 Blackboard design

  Show on the CAI

  Anyway, the teaching of this lesson aims to develop not only the Ss鈥 language technical abilities, but also the intelligence by integrated teaching methods.

  As teachers, to make our English classroom shine with vitality, we are laid with heavy burden, and we still have long way to go.
