  Post-task activity

  1 More Reading: Food shopping

  a) Have Ss read the following article on food shopping silently.

  Food Shopping

  In the past, people shopped for fruits, vegetables, bread, and meat at small food stores and at open markets. Before there were refrigerators, it was difficult to keep food fresh for a long time, so people shopped almost every day.

  Life today is very different from the past. Refrigerators keep food fresh so people don鈥檛 have to shop every day. People also have very busy lives. They have time to shop for food only once or twice a week.

  Nowadays, most people go to just one place. They can buy fruit, bread, meat, fresh vegetables, and frozen food at a big supermarket. Most supermarkets have different sections for food, such as baked goods, meat, fruit, and vegetables.

  Today, some people even shop on the Internet. They order food online, and restaurants deliver it to their home!

  b) Ask individual Ss to read aloud the article paragraph by paragraph.

  c) Have Ss take notes on the differences between peoples shopping habits in the past and today. For example:

  In the Past

  Today

  * no fridges

  * shopped every day

  * shopped at small food stores or at open markets

  * have fridges

  * shop once or twice a week

  * shop in big supermarkets or on line

  d) Have more able Ss retell the contents.

  2 Making Supermarket Big Books

  Encourage Ss to go to different supermarkets and look at the section boards and food labels there. They need to collect empty food packets and pictures to make their big books.
